We are thrilled to welcome students to our new South College School of Pharmacy. In January of 2010, we submitted an application for pre-candidate status to the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). This past Monday, we received notice that we have been granted approval to launch our doctor of pharmacy degree program.

This is great news, not only for South College but also for the community. This new program offers a unique educational opportunity in this area and will bring faculty and students from all over the country to Knoxville. (more…)

Usually, the person praised is surprised at the mention. (more…)

There are angels among us

Monday, November 21st, 2011 by Stephen A. South

South College has a heart for community service. It is something we encourage, but our students really take up the cause and run with it.

One of the ways we help during the holidays is through our Angel Tree project. The Student Advisory Committee, a group of students that work closely with our faculty in helping guide the direction of our school, heads up this effort each year. (more…)

Norman Hammitt (left) welcomes Erin Donovan (right) as guest lecturer in his public relations class.

Guest lecturers are a great learning tool. The first-hand experiences they bring to the classroom give students another perspective on the value of what they are learning.

Local television personality Erin Donovan treated Norman Hammitt’s public relations class to a discussion about the important relationship between those in the public relations field and members of the media. (more…)

As we near the end of our first semester at the new state-of-the-art West Campus facility, we are hearing rave reviews from faculty and students alike.

It was a remarkable transformation converting the entire west wing of the former Goody’s corporate office building, 85,000 square feet, into classrooms and functional learning environments. But the effort has paid off. (more…)

New Space Equals New Opportunities

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 by Stephen A. South

When we built our signature building on Lonas Drive, it was such an increase in space I thought it would give us plenty of room to grow. Only four years later, we have filled that building and have been holding additional classes at a second location on Hayfield Road in West Knoxville.

That is why I am so excited about our new expansion plans. You may have heard the news that we will soon be moving into Parkside Centre, the former corporate headquarters of Goody’s Family Clothing on Parkside Drive. This facility is perfect for us: It has over 85,000 square feet of space for classrooms, labs and offices as well as a 200-seat auditorium. (more…)

A Day of Caring and Remembrance

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009 by Stephen A. South

Sept. 11 has become a day to reflect on the sacrifices people make to help one another. It is that caring spirit that brings us together.

That is the spirit we are celebrating at South College with our “Day of Caring,” observed each year on Sept. 11 in honor of those who lost their lives that day in 2001. This year we’re focusing on those whose lives depend on bone marrow donations.

Gary Taylor

We recently held a bone marrow donor drive to help expand the registry of potential donors through a national registry program called CAMP (Cooperative Appalachian Marrow Program). In addition, students are selling red, white and blue ribbons so that people can show their caring support. All the proceeds will go to the CAMP program.
