Last week we began demolition inside the former Goody’s corporate headquarters on Parkside Drive, to convert the office space into our new Parkside Centre Learning Site. When we built our signature building on Lonas Drive, it was such an increase in space I thought it would give us plenty of room to grow. Only four years later, we have filled that building and have been holding additional classes at a second location on Hayfield Road in West Knoxville.
That is why I am so excited about our new expansion plans. You may have heard the news that we will soon be moving into Parkside Centre, the former corporate headquarters of Goody’s Family Clothing on Parkside Drive. Dec. 19, 2009, is a banner day at South College.
It’s graduation day for our first 27 students to complete the Masters of Health Science degree in our Physician Assistant Studies program. This diverse group completed 15 months of classroom training followed by a 12-month clinical phase that included rotations all across East Tennessee. Read the rest of this entry »
As we reflect on our blessings in this season of giving thanks, many children and families right here in East Tennessee are not so fortunate. No child ever chooses to live in poverty, and no parent wants to be unable to provide a gift or toy for their child at Christmas time.

Sept. 11 has become a day to reflect on the sacrifices people make to help one another. It is that caring spirit that brings us together.
That is the spirit we are celebrating at South College with our “Day of Caring,” observed each year on Sept. 11 in honor of those who lost their lives that day in 2001. This year we’re focusing on those whose lives depend on bone marrow donations.

We recently held a bone marrow donor drive to help expand the registry of potential donors through a national registry program called CAMP (Cooperative Appalachian Marrow Program). In addition, students are selling red, white and blue ribbons so that people can show their caring support. All the proceeds will go to the CAMP program.
Technology is everywhere. Whether it is Facebook, Skype, Twitter, or a blog like this one, we are now able to communicate in so many ways. And now Moodle is making the transfer of information at South College even easier.
We love to employ the best technology available. That’s why we have state-of-the-art classrooms and wireless Internet throughout our campus. That is also why we are so excited to incorporate Moodle into our curriculum.
One of the primary factors a company looks for when deciding to build or expand is the quality of the area workforce. At South College, we work closely with industry leaders to tailor our curriculum to the jobs that are in demand.
